It has been one of those days.
Actually, the drama started last night. Yesterday was my first day of school. I'm taking mostly on-line courses this semester. However, Organic Chemistry isn't my thing so I need to take it in class. Last night my mom watched my kids while I wasted 2 hours at school. The bookstore sold us all the wrong books and lab manuals and we pretty much wasted the entire class figuring out what to do. We did take about 10 minutes worth of notes on the metric system. Oh joy. I absolutely hate wasting my time. The line at the bookstore was way too long so I decided to get my book today instead.
Anyhow, as I pulled into my parent's driveway after class I immediately knew something was wrong. My parents, sister and kids were all on the front porch. It was obvious that Megan and Joey had been crying. Apparently, the kids were happily playing in the backyard, my parent's have a huge yard with a big wooden swing set/fort thing, while my mom rocked Johnny to sleep. She heard Megan scream. John woke up. Joey screamed. Mom ran to the door. Maggie (my sister) screamed. Mom began to panic. She raced outside as the kids ran in. They were attacked by a swarm of wasps. Megan received 5 stings, Maggie two and Joey lucked out with only one in his armpit. My mom went out to spray the nest and ended up with three stings, as well. Thank goodness Julie and Thomas were on the other side of the yard. My father headed to Lowes and bought tons of sprays and wasp killing contraptions. Maybe by next Monday the backyard will be safe again.
On my way home I checked my voice mail and received a message confirming my dentist appointment for today. Drat! That couldn't be right, I wasn't supposed to go back to the dentist until the end of August. Oh no, it is the end of August. Today started out lovely. I received two filling on the top and one on the bottom of the left side of my mouth. Again, my mom babysat.
After the dentist, Thomas was napping and the kids were riding scooters when I arrived at the house. I quickly nursed Johnny and decided to leave the "big" kids with mom and run to the bookstore. I buckled Johnny into his seat, threw the keys onto my seat and shut the door. Mom was talking with me as I reached for the handle to open the door. It was locked. Oh no. I quickly ran to the other doors, all locked. I panicked. My mom, who never ever gets upset, suggested calling AAA. I suggested breaking the window. lol She called AAA. I called 911.
The big fire truck arrived 3 minutes later and Johnny was rescued. Amazingly, the locksmith arrived 2 minutes after the fireman. I guess a baby locked in a car on a hot day speeds them up. Johnny was no worse for the wear. He didn't fuss at all but he was covered in sweat when they pulled him out. It's so scary to see how fast a disaster could happen. I still don't know how the car locked. Weird.
Everyone is safe and sound now.
