No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

Teri, my good friend is very ill. She suffers from severe hyperemesis (as do I). She is the only person I know who shares in my less than joyful experiences of pregnancy. Mainly, on the bathroom floor puking my guts out (literally). During the first trimester of carrying Johnny I lost over 20 lbs. That doesn't seem like a huge amount but at 5' 7" I weighed in at only 94 lbs. I was an emaciated scary looking beast.

Hyperemesis is not morning sickness. I have no interest in hearing how awful your morning sickness is while I'm watching you eat a muffin. For God's sake you are wearing make-up.

Oh yeah back to Teri....

My friends and I have been bring meals to her family since she is unable to cook (or clean, or dress, or lift her head). Thursday Tommy, johnny and I made chicken enchiladas. Really, I cooked a homemade meal. ;-) Teri, appreciated my effort and was very grateful. After all, she wasn't going to eat it.

Unfortunately, Teri lives on the complete opposite end of town. I was forced to take the main highway which I usually avoid at all costs. there is a particular stretch of highway under major construction that totally creeps me out. Cement barriers line both sides of the road making it almost tunnel-like. There is absolutely no shoulder area.

I was minding my own business driving near the posted limit through the dreaded area when the stupid truck in front of me dropped something off of it. I had no time to react. It appeared to be a two-foot by two-foot metal or cement box of some sort. Within a moment I hit it. Hard. The car bounced over it with a huge bang. Both babies immediately started screaming. It's a miracle that I didn't run into the side barrier. Being a good 10 miles from home I debated what I should do. Dh, my parents and the big kids were in the high country skiing.*I decided to head for home and prayed with all my might that we would make it without getting a flat tire. The truck was long gone. Thank goodness we made it all the way home. I was shocked to discover absolutely no dings, dents, or flat tires. I'm not sure what it hit but I can't find any damage. Thank God!

*Yes, the kids went skiing on a Thursday. I'm the bad mom that lets them skip school for ski trips. In fact, they have gone skiing every week except one since Christmas day.
** Just to clarify: they haven't missed school every single week for skiing. ;-)
