Despite all my complaints I actually have a very easy course load this semester. I know the nursing program is going to kick my butt so this is a nice break.
I do have one nagging issue though.
Background:
My sociology class isn't hard, per say. But it isn't a cake walk either. It is imperative to read the chapters carefully and take good notes. My teacher tests us on the reading material before we do any in-class discussions. I've done very well on the tests almost always getting 100%.
Our midterm (and final) are worth 200 points each. The majority of the points are on essay questions specifically about information she taught us in class not from the text. Missing class isn't an option for that reason and because attendance is calculated into the grade. She is also the kind of teacher that never gives a perfect grade. She lists the grading statistics for all assignments and tests on the class website. No one has ever received a perfect grade on any of our papers. I've consistently gotten one of the highest grades (39/40, 99/100, 73/75) *.
The problem:
I got 191 on the midterm. When I saw the grade posted on-line I was a bit upset. I knew the material and I thought I did better than that. When I saw the actual test I was shocked to see that I only missed one point off the essay questions. The other eight points were on two multiple choice questions (4 points each). On the first one I realized my mistake immediately. I flip-flopped the fill-in-the-blank answers. But the 2nd one seemed right. I went home and looked it up. Sure enough I was right.
I debated whether or not to bring it up to the teacher. I had a 99% in the class- the four points wouldn't have made any difference. (I should add that many of the students struggle with the class and only two of us have A's) I couldn't help myself. The next class I brought up the test and nonchalantly asked her what the correct answer was. She looked it up and agreed that I indeed did have the right answer. The next class was filing in. She said "You aren't in any danger but I better give you the TWO points that your earned." Then she opened the grade book and made a little mark by my grade. Other students were gathering around to ask her questions and I didn't want to make a big deal out of nothing so I left.
But I really want all four of my points not just two. sigh
This all occurred two or three weeks ago. Our on-line grades still list my midterm as 191 out of 200. She's updated all of our other assignments and tests but my four points are still missing.
Do I bring it up or let it die?
*This is a freshman class and many of the students are 18 (ish). They are very concerned with their make-up, cell phones, and often chat about the all night parties they seem to attend several nights each week. I'm not brilliant by any means but I do study hard and pay attention in class.

I'd bring it up again and again until you get your correct points! You are working so hard to those points and you deserve all of them!
You are doing fantastic!! These great study habits will really pay off in nursing school. I'm sure you'll continue to be at the top of the class!

I'd definitely remind her if a little more time goes by - "Please add the four points to my score for that test we discussed. It should read 195/200."
That said, I would only really stress about it if it's going to affect your letter grade in the class. Then I'd pull out all the stops!! LOL
btw, you're doing AWESOME!! :)
