Mending

At Joey's end of the year ceremony/5th grade graduation the principle made a comment about how busy mothers are at this time of the year.

"..as your pile of things that need mending grows..."

My mother turned to me and completely busted up laughing. Apparently, the thought of me mending anything was too much for her. It's true I'm not a happy homemaker. I don't mend anything, ever. In fact, I've never used the word mend before that day. Regardless, I was a bit offended at her reaction. I vowed to never ask for her sewing help again. Ever. :P

A few day later the girls had their end of the year award ceremony for AHG. Julie graduated to a Tenderfoot and Megan received the badges and service star she had earned throughout the year.
As a Tenderfoot Julie now has a vest that needs numbers, a flag and patches sewn on. Crap.

I secretly borrowed my sister's sewing kit and began sewing J's stuff onto her vest. My poor little thumb is throbbing. I can't possibly finish her vest in time for Monday's Memorial Day event.

My work so far.

Notice the crooked "2"? Well, it's staying that way. So there. I don't even notice it... Yeah... It's totally fine....okay? Whatever, I'm so going to take the damn thing off and fix it. Grrr

Megan just had to be an overachiever and earn 6 patches and a service star. My fingers hurt just looking at the work ahead of me.

I'm not calling my mom. Nope, I'm not going to do it. I wonder if I could pay someone to sew these on? What would I even look up? mending services? sewing experts?

Mom, I need your help! Please?

Your handy dandy dry cleaner can handle that domestic task for you. ;)

I think someone needs to develop and market iron-on patches. That looks like torture. I agree with Geri. :)
