Some things I learned in OB

  • Typed birth plan = C-section delivery and NICU stay
  • Abruption=cocaine use
  • When in doubt, check the fundus
  • Most everyone poops or vomits during labor and delivery
  • Using a Foley is a really cool way to check lung maturity
  • "Ferning" looks like snowflakes
  • Newborn intubation is very scary to watch
  • It's amazing how things can go from "completely normal" to "really bad" in seconds.
  • There is nothing comparable to sharing in the most precious moments of people's lives.
  • Every baby is a blessing
My OB rotation is ending this week. It's been a fun change but I'm ready to move on.

Ah yes...the birth plan. I've seen only about a handful of them go as they wanted.

OB is a fun & scary place all at the same time. It's such an honor to be a witness to new life being brought into the world.

Newborn intubation is scary period! I hate hate hate when we have a bad baby! Ugh...those are the moments I want to change specialties! LOL!
