Dental Dilemma

Like most normal people, I HATE going to the dentist. Morning sickness throughout four pregnancies did a number on my enamel. This past spring I had 2 root canals and 3 fillings. I need to get 3 more fillings and a crown. Last month I was eating dinner and felt a wired sensation. It hurt to chew and something was poking at my gums. I was in tremendous pain throughout the night. When I called the dentist the next morning I discovered they were out of the office for two weeks (4th of July). They referred me to their emergency guy.

I absolutely LOVE the new dentist. He is so friendly and down to Earth. He was very slow and tedious but really made sure not to cause me any pain. The office staff was wonderful too. My filling had fallen out and embedded into my gums. Owie. He removed the filling, drilled away the decay and did the crown build-up.

I just received the insurance paperwork. The new dentist, whom I love, removed the fillings that were put in last March. He did the crown build-up on a tooth that isn't getting a crown. That tooth was supposed to be okay with just the filling. Oh no....

I have an appointment with the old dentist on Wednesday to get the crown. I know he is going to flip when he sees that it is on the wrong tooth. I'm screwed. The crowns are over $1,000 each. Now am I going to need two?

My other dilemma is that I really want to switch to the new guy. Dr. U has been my family's dentist since I was 7. I'm in the middle of treatment plan with him. I know it would be wrong to leave him for the new guy before I get all the current work done. But I really want to. This entire situation just stinks. My mouth hurts. I hate the dentist!

Oh dear. I am sorry. I hate the dentist too. I had the same dentist from the time my first tooth came in to when I graduated college. Since then I've never been to the same one twice -- that's a whole other story, though.

Good luck with everything and I hope your mouth feels better!
