Nothing much to say

I typically experience a low point the days following Christmas. When the hustle and bustle of the season is over, the decorations put away and life returns to normal I get a bit depressed. It hasn't hit yet. :)

I think my hormones are finally getting back to their normal routine. Johnny is almost completely weaned. He is talking more and more each day. I love his cute little squeaky voice and his enthusiasm. His whole face lights up and his arms flail wildly in excitement. I love this age. Everything is new, shiny and exciting. If only he'd sleep through the night... Sigh He still wakes every 3 hours, every single night. I thought that weaning would help but it hasn't made a difference. He just doesn't need much sleep. He talks, dances, and runs laps in the crib in the middle of the night. He runs from one end of the crib as fast as he can and then body slams the side, bounces on his bottom and hysterically laughs, only to get up and do it again and again until he gets bored. He'll call "Mama Maaaaaaama Maaaaama" "Dada Daaada Daaaaaaaada" "Meeeegy Meeeeeeeegy" He hardly naps at all either. I just don't get it. Is Insomnia possible in an infant?

Tommy has a new therapist. She seems to think he has attachment disorder. I think he just doesn't like her. Whatever. She is teaching him some great skills. He is really moving along with all of his therapies. It's funny how every single worker has diagnosed him with something different. Over the past year we've been told he has severe sensory issues, possible bi-polar, anti social behaviors, and now attachment disorder. The only constant in their sea of problems is agreeing on the fetal alcohol effects. In my, clearly unqualified opinion, he is beginning to show real progress. His behaviors have improved immensely over the past six months. He has become very sweet especially when relating with the baby and the dog. He no longer hits, bites, scratches or spits. He knows what time-out is and controls his actions very well. He seems like a pretty normal two year old little boy to me. He will graduate from the early intervention program when he turns three at the end of February. He will then be turned over to the local schools. The school district and I met in early December to evaluate and write his IEP. He qualifies for speech, OT and PT and a psychologist, hence the new therapist. His bio parents have long histories of mental problems. However, I think years of drug abuse induced most of them. Using their histories to diagnose Tommy is a mistake, IMO.

My dad took the three big kids to see Night at the Museum. So once again, I'm home alone with Tom and John. Christmas vacation is almost over. I'll be glad to be back in the routine but I'm sad they will be gone all day again. These past two weeks have flown by. We didn't spend as much time as I would have liked just being together enjoying each other's company. Dh is taking them skiing on Thursday. I'm tempted to join them. My parents offered to watch the little guys. We'll see how I feel tomorrow. :-)

Well, I'll take your opinion over that of the "experts" any day. I am so glad Tommy's showing such great progress!

LOL about Johnny's insomnia - and congratulations on weaning him. Hope he starts sleeping through the night - and that he discovers the joy of naps one day soon.
