First Communion

Megan and Joey made their First Eucharist on April 29, 2007.

It was quite an event for both of them, but Megan was especially touched. She counted down the days for weeks in advance.

"Only 16 more days until I get to experience the Eucharist!"

On Sunday morning she awoke at 2 am and ran into my bedroom.

"Mommy, I get to receive Jesus in six hours! Only six more hours! Can you believe it, Mommy!"

At Mass Megan's anticipation grew. She could hardly sit still. She was glowing.

When it was time Father Gus called them up. Joey was very excited. Megan was overwhelmed. She kneeled down and looked at me with tears streaming down her face.

"I wish I didn't have to die to go to Heaven. I love Jesus so very much!"

It was a momentous day. We were lucky that J & M were able to make theirs a week ahead of the rest of the class. Since Joey (and my parents and sister) were leaving on the cruise last week we had to find an alternate Mass.

It ended up being even more wonderful not having to share it with the other 54 kids. We were able to reserve the first two pews for our family and we brought up the gifts. Megan and Joey walked down the isle with Father during the opening song. Megan was wearing gloves so Father dipped his hand in the Holy Water and dribbled it on her head. It was very cute and the entire congregation laughed. Since she was the only one dressed up in a gown and veil, everyone made a fuss over her. She loved every moment of the attention.

Joey was super excited to get his orange cross blessed. He isn't one that likes much attention. While Megan mingled with the crowd Joey ran for the donuts. He had his suit off within seconds and ran outside to play with the boys. :)

I had tears from reading about Megan. How beautiful!

Congratulations to both of them - and all of you.
