Disappointed

I received my final clinical assignment for the remainder of the semester, 12 weeks. It's the worst facility in the city. :-( I'm so pissed. I already did 60 hours in this dump. It's completely understaffed, uses outdated equipment and the staff members are horrible. It's a long term care facility and all the other locations are acute care.

This place is so run down that the ugly grayish paint is peeling off in huge chunks revealing even uglier pink primer. The residents are mostly on mattresses on the dirty floor staring at the walls. They are unable to even see out the windows of their rooms. Only a very few have TVs. It's so sad. I don't want to go there.

When I did my last rotation there I had two very bad incidents with the staff. I'm usually a very nonconfrontational person but the quality of care was horrendous. Now the staff hates me.

I'm even more pissed that the person who assigns the clinical groups put all of her students into the best facility. Grrrrr

That is horrible Kristen!! I would ask for a different placement, is there anyone you can talk to other than the person who assigns the groups?

I am shocked about the quality of care you described, I cannot imagine that the resident's family members are okay with this! It's so horribly sad that people are subjected to this kind of living arrangements, especially at the end of their life. How horrible sad that they cannot even look out at the sunshine and the blue skies!

I really hope you can plead your case and get a different clinical rotation.
